About Us

So Sick Kicks, a custom sneaker design business that transforms the timeless and classic All-American Converse sport shoe into hand-painted foot art for all ages, is the two-year old brainchild of Washington, D.C.-based artist, Sara Callahan.

Known for her colorful surrealist aesthetic and playful visual identity, Callahan's line of custom "kicks" is a natural evolution for the creator, who credits her early experimentations with paper jewelry, miniature comic book creations and clothing for her toys, for the development of her passion and talent for art and design.

Decades later, and with years of experience as a trained artist and professional graphic designer firmly under her belt, Callahan's venture has already taken the designer's home city by storm, where residents --from local artists to resident fashionistas-- can be found sporting their customized, individually hand painted pair of SSKs. The eye-catching creations were also a staple at artist cooperative boutique, DEKKA, located on the city's thriving U Street entertainment strip, and have also been featured in many of the city's hipster publications such as Thrillist and The D.C. Examiner.
